Overview
Every company loaded onto Intersect must match a legally registered entity on the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) database. The 4-step validation confirms that the business added to the platform is genuine, accurately registered and held by the correct directors. This protects the integrity of every workflow that follows, from annual returns to beneficial ownership, share registers and document generation.
Why Validation Is Required
CIPC is the authoritative source of company registration data in South Africa. When you connect a company to Intersect, the platform immediately needs to confirm three things:
1. The company exists and is active on the CIPC register.
Intersect cannot populate governance records, create filings or generate documents for an entity that does not reflect correctly on CIPC.
2. The directors captured in Intersect match the official record.
If an unauthorised person tries to load or manage a company, validation blocks the attempt and prevents fraudulent access.
3. The foundational company data is accurate before users automate compliance tasks.
Intersect automates board resolutions, share registers, Annual Returns, Beneficial Ownership submissions and more. Each of these relies on correct legal data. Validation prevents downstream errors, rejected submissions, and misaligned records.
What the 4 Steps Confirm
The validation workflow checks the following against CIPC:
Step 1: Company Registration Match
The registration number and entity type must align exactly with the CIPC record.
Step 2: Director Identity Match
The directors listed on CIPC are compared to the directors added on Intersect. The platform must confirm that the user completing the setup is authorised.
Step 3: Registered Details
Intersect ensures that the official company name, status and core details match the current CIPC database.
Step 4: Governance Alignment
Before compliance workflows open, Intersect checks that the company structure can legally perform filings such as Annual Returns and Beneficial Ownership updates.
Once all four steps are passed, the company receives a Verified CIPC Data badge on Intersect.
